Importing Contacts from Excel CSV results in Blank Email Addresses into Goldmine 6.0

I’ve imported email contacts from a comma delimited excel spread sheet.  The columns consisted of Contact name, email and then a description column unique to the list of contacts.  All of my columns are mapping to the corrrect fields, but when I filter for the unique identifier after the import, I’m finding that many of the contacts email addresses did not import.  I went back and compared contacts whose meail addresses did and did not import, and compared them to the entries in the spreadsheet and have been unable to determine why some did and did not import.  Any ideas?
